International Standards

International standards provide structured technical references for the design interpretation, manufacture, inspection, and documentation of industrial components and machinery parts.

At SMI, relevant international standards are applied as engineering and manufacturing references to support dimensional accuracy, material integrity, functional performance, and documentation consistency.


Application of International Standards

Depending on product type, application, and customer specification, international standards may be referenced to guide:

  • Material specifications and grade selection
  • Dimensional tolerances and functional requirements
  • Inspection, testing, and measurement methods
  • Technical documentation and production records

Referenced standards may include ISO, ASTM, ASME, DIN, EN, BS, JIS, or other industry-accepted norms, subject to engineering review and contractual agreement.


Engineering Review and Standards Interpretation

Standards are applied in conjunction with customer drawings, specifications, and functional requirements rather than in isolation.

Engineering review is conducted to confirm applicability, resolve potential conflicts between standards, and clarify manufacturing or inspection implications prior to production.


Standards Scope and Responsibility

The applicability of specific standards and editions is confirmed during quotation or order confirmation stages to ensure alignment with project scope and responsibility boundaries.

Where multiple standards or regional norms are involved, equivalency or reference relationships are evaluated as part of the engineering clarification process.
